John is a ward councillor for Kirkburton having been first elected in May 2015. John is retired having worked for over 30 years in Retail Banking. In May 2017 he was elected Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group on Kirklees Council. John is a resident of Shepley, which is in the Kirkburton ward & has also served as a Parish Councillor for the Village of Shepley for over 15 years. In addition to his Council work he is also an active member of his Village Association and a Library volunteer in Kirkburton and Shepley Libraries.

Cllr John Taylor highlights Labours lack of urgency on budget overspend

Labour-run Kirklees council are currently overspending by approximately £2.8 million per month. At the recent Full Cabinet, Cllr John Taylor raised this with portfolio holder Cllr Paul Davies and leader Cllr Pandor, who gave a very long and generic response highlighting that no real action has yet been taken.

Usually August is the quietest month for the Council as most people tend to have holidays so committees don’t meet but this year does seem to have been different. I am as busy as ever.
